1. There is Carpool en there
is Smartpool
In recent years, the increased number of car owners,
the increase in car traffic and the problems related to
this situation, have drawn ever more attention to car-pooling
as one of the alternatives that might help solve this
problem.
To promote car-pooling as an alternative means of transport,
the first requirements are raising public awareness and
changing general attitudes. Communication and promotion
will be instrumental in achieving this. However, there
is no sense in promoting car-pooling as an alternative
if one is unable to provide the potential car-poolers
with partners. The first condition for car-pooling
is that people who wish to participate in car-pooling
must be able to contact other potential car-poolers who
regularly take the same route or part of that same route.
Hence the need for good match-making software.
Taxistop has developed this software, namely Smartpool.
Smartpool is developed by Taxistop, a Belgian non-profit
organisation which, for over 20 years already, has been
active in the field of car-pooling and related projects.
Smartpool is a car-pool application that is entirely based
on geographical data. When searching for car-pool
partners, you do not look up the postal codes of two places.
Instead, you look at the different routes that can be
used to travel from one place to another, taking into
account the travel time required.
This program has been continually optimised and, thanks
to its merits, meanwhile has received international acclaim
(e.g. Spain, France, Austria and the Netherlands).
